The Zhan Zhuang lineage
The lineage – that is, the lineage of transmission from master to student – that I am in is that of Wang Xiang Zhai, the founder of the martial art Da Cheng Chuan. The lineage of Da Cheng Chuan (Y Chuan) is short, but the lineage of Zhan Zhuang Chi Kung – the basic training for Da Cheng Chuan – can be traced further back to its mystical, ancient Taoist source.
The practice of cultivating human energy has been passed down from master to student in a lineage spanning 2,700 years. The great Taoist philosophers such as Lao Tse and Chuang Tse already speak of the essential qualities that form the core for the practice of Zhan Zhuang.
The Chi Kung style I teach is called Zhan Zhuang and has been handed down within my lineage. Zhan Zhuang is the indispensable basis for the martial arts like Da Cheng Chuan (Y Chuan), and many healing or spiritual arts.
Wang Xiang Zhai (1855 – 1963)

Grandmaster Wang Xiang Zhai
Small in stature and in poor health, he began training with his uncle Guo Yun Shan at a young age. He traveled through China for 10 years meeting and learning from great martial art masters.
Around 1945 he developed a new system based on Zhan Zhuang. His ‘art’ became known under two names: Da Cheng Chuan and I Chuan (Y Chuan). Wang Xiang Zhai was challenged by hundreds of masters, who could not beat the little man. His great strength was not based on muscle power.
He broke with the tradition of secrecy and teached public Zhan Zhuang classes in a Beijing park, believing that this medicinal practice method should be accessible to everyone. His daughter, spiritual heir and lineage holder, Mrs. Wang Yufang passed away on March 14, 2012.
Professor Yu Yong Nian (1920 – 2013)

Professor Yu Yong Nian
He studied Western (dental) medicine in Japan. He felt exhausted from working long hours and became a disciple of Wang Xiang Zhai. He introduced Zhan Zhuang after nine years of training at the Beijing Shoudong San Hospital where he worked, from there Zhan Zhuang was introduced into hospitals throughout the country after 1956.
Grandmaster Lam Kam Chuen

Master Lam Kam Chuen
(born after WW II in Hong Kong – present). He began training Xing Yi under Master Fung at the age of 12 and learned the arts of the “Northern Shaolin School” with Master Lung Tse Cheung and Master Yim Sheung Mo, both desciples of the Grandmaster Ku Yue Chang, “the King of the Iron Palm” in his time.

Master Lam studied in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan and is trained in Chinese medicine, herbal medicine, bone-setting, astrology, Feng Shui, Dit Da, various martial arts including Tai Chi Chuan, Choy Lee Fut Sow, Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, Iron palm, Xing Yi, Da Cheng Chuan and various weapon systems.
He studied systems such as chi, yin-yang, bagua, I Ching and became one of Professor Yu’s desciples.
Of these nine disciples, he is the only one who provides training in the health aspects of Da Cheng Chuan and the only one who teaches in Europe. He opened a martial art school and his first clinic in Hong Kong and later moved to London.

He has worked as a healer and teacher for more than 50 years, and has written many books that have been translated into 17 languages.
Master Lam was one of the first to give lessons to Westerners and in the West. He no longer accepts new students. His son, Lam Tin Yu continues teaching his arts.

Anders Hakansson

Anders Håkansson. My Swedish teacher Anders passed away on October 16th, 2011. Trained in various spiritual traditions, healing and martial arts, desciple of Master Lam Kam Chuen. His teachings went far beyond internal arts. I can’t thank him enough for our meeting, his beautiful, inspiring lessons. I think of him with love and gratitude.
Cosima Scheuten
My name is Cosima Scheuten. I was in training with Anders for about nine years, and with master Lam from 2004 to present; since 2017 as disciple (inner door student). In my teachings I focus on the spiritual and health aspects of his arts, on the internals, on sensing, pleasure and awareness. Here is more info about me.
